Propaganda Alert #1

You gotta love this blatant attempt at misinformation.

Pakistani officials claim Bhutto's death was caused when she hit her head on the lever of the sunroof in the vehicle she was riding in.

It apparently had nothing to do with the multiple gunshot wounds above her chest, nor the explosive device that killed approximately 30 bystanders in the immediate area.

Proceed with caution as you react to shootings and bombings while in your SUV!!!

Ferocious Felines and Friendship

I just wrote a post on AmenComeLordJesus.com called "Love" that continues some of the themes from yesterday. Hope you enjoy.

On the tiger uprising front, the news indicates that the wall around the tiger exhibit in SF was four feet lower than standard. There is also some indication, either in reality or from the propaganda machine, that one of the victims might have been dangling a leg over the top of the fence. Tragedy either way.

There is also evidence that I was not overreacting. Apparently there has been an increase in the number and frequency of tiger attacks. This article indicates it has been a ten-year trend in the making and also confirms (on page 2) that tigers, like bears, are in fact "killing machines."

Finding the silver lining yet again, my fun with the threat matrix continues with the launch of a Google gadget version. Incompetent zookeepers have been added.

Cycles and Similarities

I don't think there is really such a thing as coincidence. I think everything has a purpose. Some, perhaps, deeper than others. So, I'm not going to lose a lot of sleep tonight over the meaning of the observation I'm going to make. Any loss of sleep tonight is already credited to the white paper I am writing. But I do find it curious how something bizarre occurs, and then is followed by more similar incidents. Case in point:

Today, there has been headline news (meaning I've seen it on the Google Top Stories widget) about a tiger mauling in San Francisco. I'm sure it has been on television news and maybe in some papers, too. In fact, I do think I saw a story this morning, either in passing or before fully conscious. Nevertheless, a story about a tiger mauling, or, in fact, a story about a tiger is fairly uncommon. Then, out of nowhere (meaning I don't usually check the site, but do have a toolbar button pointing at it, generally for weather or traffic, and just decided to click on it for a mental break to check the news) I see on the local news station's website that a dead tiger was found on the streets of Dallas on the 25th. Completely unrelated to the mauling.

Except that they are both bizarre tiger stories that are so intrinsically uncommon one would not expect to see two in one day. It is enough to send one into a Steven-Colbert-Like-Bear-Type Alert warning America about tigers. Or it could be a media conspiracy feeding me information about tigers that demographics indicate that I would be interested in. Who knows, it could just be a coincidence. But I don't believe in those. Don't think it is too significant, though. Just in case, I've added tigers to the inaugural threat matrix.

Peace!

Inspiration Is Inspired Is Inspiring

A couple of things jumped out at me while visiting brother Inspired's blog NE29 this evening:

First, the posts are both concise and meaningful. Take "One Door" for example. That is a beautiful post...it set me back on my heels, it blew my mind. A connection between a seemingly immaterial physical detail about Noah's Ark and an intrinsic truth about the salvation offered by our Lord Jesus Christ, the One True God Incarnate. In 41 words (of them 11 in parenthetical citations or footnote) comprising three paragraphs. I write two posts, co-mingle topics and set verbosity records while still not saying clearly "I had a nice holiday with my family." So, not only am I inspired by the NE29 content, I am also inspired to work on my own writing to seek clarity, focus, and concise thoughts. Not that this post is shaping up to be an example of my progress 8-0 All kidding aside, all I'm trying to say is "beautiful work, Inspired."

The second thing that hit me tonight was Inspired's "about me" quote: "the spirit of Friendship is the Friendship of the Spirit." It dawned on me that this is what I was trying to say about greeting folks while out and about over the holidays. The spirit of love and friendship. If we could all treat each other as nicely all year round, we'd all be taking a big step forward to fulfilling one of our Lord's greatest commands: ...love one another as I have loved you John 15:12 (KJV). How did Jesus love us? He sent His Holy Spirit!

That's inspiring!!!

Holiday Reflections

Well, I must say that my feelings toward the pagan and commercial aspects of the holiday season haven't changed. And I've got to be honest, I enjoy a day off work, period. So, no conscientious-objector-work-in-protest action from me or anything like that :-/

So, what's my point? Here it is: family. Although one could argue that we should make more time in our hectic lives to spend in fellowship with family in general, it is a fact that holiday times underscore the need and guide us to deliberately do so.

As I reflect on the recent holiday week, I am very grateful for the time spent doing exactly that. Friday, I was able to spend a little time with one of my daughters, Ashley, and Jennifer on a ride from Dallas to Waxahachie and then a little later, the three of us were joined by her boyfriend Will. We went and played pool for a couple of hours....nothing planned, our evening was hectic and ad-libbed all the way, but when it was done, I realized I had been waiting all my life to spend a little adult time with one of my adult daughters and her adult boyfriend and when that sunk in, it made it extra special.

The next night, Jennifer and Hannah and I went to dinner with my other daughter, Jordan. It, too, was a wonderful evening. We helped her pick a bridesmaid dress and then went to her apartment to change and relax. From there, we had a nice steak dinner and talked a lot about her coming move to California and her other plans when her husband, DJ, returns on leave. They have a hectic month coming in February, being in a wedding party in Colorado, a trip to Florida to visit his grandpa, and a move to California. But, the part of the month I most look forward to is the couple of days they plan to spend chillin' out with old Dad here in Waxahachie.

In between and before and after those evenings, Jennifer and I did some shopping with and without Hannah, and that was fun. Sunday was a bit of a rest day for me, Monday saw Hannah's grandparents over for dinner. They got me a book of bible charts and maps, which I really like and can see using in my studies for years to come. Tuesday was spent with Jennifer, Hannah, and I exchanging gifts and watching old Adam Sandler movies. I think everyone enjoyed their gifts, but I also think that everyone enjoyed the afternoon of movies even better. And for a child of ten years of age, prime age for focus on holiday presents and not much else, that fact makes me very proud of Hannah.

And so, all through this holiday season and still afterward, it strikes me as one that was defined by fellowship with family. Rather than the usual "gee, I'm glad that's over" feeling of relief that the holidays have past, I actually find myself looking forward to more like this one in the future.

I can't help but think that this is the silver lining to the holiday season. I know it is with the best intentions that folks try to ignore the paganism and find the "real meaning of Christmas" by celebrating the birth of our Lord. But the fact remains that it is not sanctioned by the Lord, it is on the wrong day, and turns into idolatry and blasphemy in so many ways I can't count. I think it is clear that the Lord detests man-made religious celebrations (see Amos 5:21-26 and Isaiah 1:13-14) and has zero-tolerance for idolatry. So, I prefer to think that everyday is the day to remember the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ and do not associate Him any more or any less with December 25th than any other day. But back to the silver lining...the boss-man is going to keep giving me those days off near the end of the year, and rather than moping around about it, I'll be looking forward to more time spent the way it was spent this year.

And I'll be looking forward to finding more time and more ways to do the same throughout the year, too!

Peace!

The Holiday Season

The holiday season is difficult for many. Painful memories, loneliness, and poverty can often come to the forefront. Materialism and pagan practices run rampant. Debt is incurred and our faith is compromised. I just published a post on my blog at AmenComeLordJesus.com on the subject of Christmas and Christianity.

On the bright side, we spend more time with family and take a break from the rat race. The year end and a few days off gives us time to reflect on the past and plan for the future. On that note, I continue to struggle with what to post where. I've noticed that the "Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!" blog here on blogspot that I started to use as a mirror of AmenComeLordJesus.com doesn't get much traffic. I'll be figuring out what to do to about that and get some focus among the various sites over the coming weeks and months. And, I still plan to publish more pictures and writings on my personal and music sites in the near future, too.

In the meantime, the past year has seen me at least go from complete inaction to taking some first steps. I'm looking forward to taking some more of those steps in the coming year.

Peace!

Purpose Found!

I've struggled with what to do with this blog.

Easy answer revealed: use it for what it is.

This blog is the nice byproduct of my Google identity that I specifically created for my activities as a bassist. So, it is always up and it is easy for me to blog under this identity.

I've already created a primary blog, AmenComeLordJesus.com. I also wouldn't be surprised if I don't attach a blog to michaelonbass.com specifically dedicated to my musical thoughts and activities, and I also have a personal site with a blog attached. So I've been uncertain what to do with this one.

Now I know. It is a crossroads of sorts, under the on-line identity I use the most. I find it convenient to use my "michaelonbass" login to make comments on some of the blogs I've been reading, and know that folks follow the link back here sometimes. So, besides the occasional random posts not necessarily fitting elsewhere, this blog site will serve as a "mini-Michael portal" so to speak.

What is really happening is that I've been finding brothers in Christ here and that makes me want to make use of this site to communicate with them. There are some powerful messages being spread on some of these other blogs...I'm linking to them where I find them, and adding widgets to others as well. I am very thankful for the blogs and the people behind them, and feel blessed when I receive comments from them. So, being part of this blogger community has struck me as a very good thing. Last, but certainly not least, since this is connected to my bassist identity, I hope that some folks that find me here from the music world will be led to the content related to the Lord.

I am thankful for all of this.

Peace!

OK, I'm A YouTube Blogging Moron

So, I just figured out that YouTube was trying to get me to set up a video log, not a video blog.

I'm not sure I get it, but the message that was bugging me went away. Whatever works.

At least I've got this blog now, yippee!

New Blog and YouTube Enabled

So, now I have a blog. It isn't the first one, but I got bored fast with the others I've started or else i got too bogged down in the format...that won't happen here.

This blog is about music. Fortunately, I'd rather play music than talk about it, so these should be brief. Nevertheless, every once in a while, I'd like to make notes about a show. Plus, I figured if I created a blog, then I could get rid of the annoying "you don't have a video blog" section of my YouTube page. That's the real reason why I'm writing this 8-)

So, check out some music videos at http://www.youtube.com/user/michaelscudiero

Peace!
